Without a doubt, Koreans like to consume ginseng. They say ginseng helps reduce stress and helps facilitate men's erections. A quick Google search will reveal many other claimed benefits from the consumption of ginseng.

The town called Bongpyeong in Gangwondo is known for its production of buckwheat. A book titled "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom" was written in 1936 by Lee Hyoseok, a resident of the area. And so every year in September, the Hyoseok Culture Festival is held in honor of this Korean author.

According to the UNESCO website, "The Gyeongju Historic Areas contain a remarkable concentration of outstanding examples of Korean Buddhist art, in the form of sculptures, reliefs, pagodas, and the remains of temples and palaces from the flowering, in particular between the 7th and 10th centuries, of this form of unique artistic expression."

For sure, "remarkable" is the right adjective to use when describing the historic sites of Gyeongju.

A walk through Seoraksan National Forest during fall when the leaves have turned to colors of yellow, red, and orange, is by far one of the best outdoor experiences I've had in Korea. The beauty of the mountain peaks and valleys is enough to fill you with a sense of awe.

A dolmen is a kind of tomb used by people who lived as far back as 4,000 years ago in many parts of the world. They are characterized by the use of monoliths, which are very large stones placed on top of the grave site. The heaviest stone used in a Korean dolmen has been estimated to weigh 200 tons.

JUST A COMMENT

Im just wondering why Filipino people are not allowed to apply in a teaching position in Korea, Japan or china especially in the English subject. In fact there are more Filipinos who are good in spoken and written English and we always make sure that our spoken English is grammatically correct. why not give us a chance also to teach in those places mentioned above. Instead of coming to the Philippines, why not try us to work in your place.I believe Filipinos are hardworking, diligent and dedicated to teaching.

Life's Perspective

Before I go beyond my purpose, let me ask a question. up to what point in time can you tolerate people to judge you? There are circumstances in life which we are always trying hard to work with. No matter how expensive, how hard, how cruel we may pass, regardless of its worth, we see to it that we come along with what we are expected to achieve.

Having participated in a DMZ Eco-Tour not long ago, and with a newly acquired and growing interest in Korean birds, I couldn't resist visiting Suncheon Bay for a day for a little bird watching.

United Service Organizations' DMZ Tour

The most heavily guarded border in the world is located between North Korea and South Korea, two countries still technically at war. The border is about 248 km long and 2 km wide. It is referred to as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and, believe it or not, is open for tours hosted by the United Service Organizations (USO).

The USO runs this tour about twice each week. You need to reserve a spot in advance and the cost is $70. In addition, there is a dress code, and you will need to have your passport with you or will not be allowed to go into the DMZ.

Boryeong Mud Festival

Every year for the last 12 years thousands of people have visited Daecheon Beach on the west coast of South Korea for a 9 day festival that is supposed to be about the health benefits of a certain kind of mud, but I think is really just about getting muddy.

I attended this year's event by joining a tour group called Korean Safari which caters to foreigners. The cost of the tour was 69,000 Won and included a chartered bus and a min-bak motel room.

Where can I teach?

Hi there,

I have just completed a 120 hour TEFL course and I wanted to know where I could in Japan work with this level of qualification?

I was hoping to teach young children as well as business English during my free time. Will this be possible?

Thanks
